SPARC, the Scottish Partnership Against Rural Crime has launched a campaign to protect Scotland’s livestock. New legislation includes updating the livestock definition, fines up to £40,000 and prison sentences for owners who let their pets worry, kill or injure farmed animals.The ‘Your Dog-Your Responsibility’ campaign will assist to educate dog owners about the new legislation and highlight use of the new powers to report dog owners of dogs which attack livestock.When walking your dog if there is livestock around, always keep the dog on a lead, even if it doesn’t normally run off.ELPARC is the East Lothian branch of SPARC and we will be highlighting this legislation on a local level and livestock worrying, distress or attack will be dealt with robustly to protect our rural communities.
