This is just a reminder to make sure you look after your car keys and consider where they are kept within your home, as thieves may break into a house solely to steal car keys and then of course the car.
Police Scotland would recommend that your do not leave keys close to windows or doors – on hooks or on hall tables where they may be easily found by thieves.
Doors and windows should be kept locked and letter boxes fitted with brushes or similar to deter items being used to ‘fish’ for keys.
If your vehicle is ‘keyless’ consider keeping the fob in a Faraday pouch, which contain materials (e.g. copper or aluminium) that block signals to wireless devices. This is the most effective way to prevent relay theft, when criminals use devices to relay the signal from the key fob within your home to your car.
